Cardiff trio Mellt have returned with their latest single, ‘Macaroni’. It’s an infectious indie rock cut with optimism at the core of its rarely-heard Welsh lyrics. The whole track feels effortless for the band to play, from its gently grooving drums to the lilt of the bass and guitar interactions. The end result is a track oozing with swagger and cool. On the accompanying video, they say: “The video for Marconi heavily draws inspiration, at least in the intro, from our mutual love of Star Wars. The video was formed around the fact that Guglielmo Marconi famously sent the first radio wave to space from South Wales in 1897, with the video being an on-the-nose documentation of three 'space-cops' following that very same mysterious sound wave flying through space.” The band are a second coming of the Cool Cymru movement, with the influence of the likes of Pavement and Paul McCartney showing up in their blend of unique songwriting and impressive hooks.
